Wine Not? Let’s Talk About Vino
Ciao, and cin cin to you all! In Italy, it’s our equivalent of 'cheers,' and in the UK you’ll often hear its cousin 'chin chin' too. For us Venetians, aperitivo isn’t just a time of day, it’s a gentle pause, usually early evening, when the workday softens into conversation, a glass of wine, and something small to nibble. And there’s always an excuse for a goto di vino , sometimes even late morning with a little panino and salame.
At Mercato Pronto, many of our wines come from Veneto producers: family-run estates working the same soils for generations, making wines with loyalty, pride and a deep sense of place. Here’s a small selection from our collection, some classics, some personal favourites, all beautifully expressive of our region.
Prosecco DOC
Fresh, delicate and endlessly versatile, there’s a reason Prosecco is Italy’s iconic sparkling wine. Perfect for aperitivo, lovely with main courses or dessert, and always welcome on its own, anytime.
On the slopes of the Euganean Hills, the Glera grape thrives, producing this bright Prosecco DOC Spumante from Alla Campagnola: clean fruit, fine bubbles, and beautifully balanced.
Expect an elegant bead, a fine and persistent perlage, floral notes of wisteria and white blossom, and a fresh palate with mineral and citrus hints.
ABV: 11% • Designation: DOC
Valpolicella Classico DOC
Valpolicella wines from Veneto are recognised worldwide, and this is a classic example from Corte Lenguin.
Vibrant ruby red, with aromas of cherry and raspberry, it’s made from a traditional blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, hand-picked each September. Fermented in rosso (with skins) to extract colour and flavour, then aged in stainless steel and bottle to preserve freshness and smooth texture.
ABV: 12.5% • Designation: DOC
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG
The most important red wine of Veneto, powerful, generous and deeply expressive. With an ABV of 16%, this Amarone is a natural partner for hearty dishes: roasted or grilled red meats, game, and aged cheeses.
Created using the appassimento method, where grapes are gently dried before fermentation, it blends Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, aged for depth and elegance.
Expect a deep ruby-garnet colour, aromas of black cherry, plum and morello cherry, and flavours that echo dried fruit, spice, warmth and richness. Full-bodied, supple and beautifully balanced, with firm tannins and a long finish.
ABV: ~16% • Designation: DOCG
Pinot Bianco Veneto IGT
Many know Pinot Grigio, but Pinot Bianco, its close relative, offers a lighter, more subtle charm. This one from Alla Campagnola is grown on the volcanic slopes of the Euganean Hills with 100% Pinot Bianco grapes.
Silky textured with notes of ripe pear, peach and soft toasted hazelnut, it’s a refreshing, elegant wine. Serve chilled for aperitivo, antipasto, seafood or chicken.
ABV: 12% • Designation: IGT
